Week 3 of the 2016 college football season is in the books, so the weekly honors are beginning to roll out. For Ohio State Buckeyes punter Cameron Johnston, that meant adding a piece of hardware to his trophy case following a big win over the Oklahoma Sooners.
On Monday, the Augusta Sports Council and Ray Guy Award announced Johnston has been named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week.
During his Week 3 performance, Johnston had a total of five punts for 253 yards, averaging 50.6 yards per punt with five punts marked inside the 20-yard line. Perhaps them most impressive part of Johnston’s performance was his net net average equaled his gross average at 50.6 yards, because none of the punts were returned.
Johnston has previously been a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, so he could once again be among the final players up for consideration for the honor if he continues to put together performance’s like this as the season goes on.
