Alabama LB Tim Williams’s punishment not yet decided

On Thursday, it was reported that star Alabama linebacker Tim Williams had been arrested on gun charges. He is expected to face some kind of punishment, but the severity of it has not yet been determined or announced.

Head coach Nick Saban released a statement on the situation and made it very clear that the Crimson Tide can not tolerate this kind of behavior from anyone. However, the team is still evaluating the situation and they would be making a decision on his punishment in the near future.

“This kind of behavior is not condoned in our program,” the coach’s statement began. “We are currently in the process of reviewing all of the information. Once we have a complete understanding of the situation, we will determine what we need to do in terms of the appropriate discipline.”

Williams was slapped with a misdemeanor charge for carrying a pistol without a permit. The other unidentified man in the car with him claimed the marijuana found in the car on Thursday.

The Alabama Crimson Tide face off against Kentucky on Saturday, so they might not miss Williams much if he were to get suspended this weekend. However, their next two games are huge as they face off against Texas A&M and Tennessee in what could be two consecutive top ten games in the following weeks.

Williams entered the 2016 season as being regarded as potential first round draft pick next April. However, he has only produced 1.5 sacks in four games after recording 10.5 all throughout the 2015 season.

It will be interesting to keep an eye on this situation as the Crimson Tide prepare for a huge SEC game on Saturday.
