After three weeks on the sideline with a nagging injury, running back Leonard Fournette returned to the lineup in a big way for LSU on Saturday. Fournette rushed for a career-high 284 yards and three touchdowns on just 16 carries in his return.
But while everyone was blown away that Fournette was back looking better than ever, the star rusher had a different opinion on his game.
Rather than praise his performance, Fournette simply said he felt like he was out of shape.
“Every two runs, I was done with. I’m telling Darrel (Williams), ‘Darrel, get in the game,’ ” Fournette said, via The Advocate.
The scary thought is that Fournette isn’t hiding the truth. Three weeks away from the field and limited practice time is certainly going to impact your cardio, so perhaps Fournette really wasn’t at 100 percent yet.
And that should scare opposing defenses, because imagine what Fournette could do when he catches his wind?
Fournette currently has 680 yards rushing and five touchdowns on the season.
LSU and Fournette have the weekend off before returning to action on Nov. 5 against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
