Duke’s Brandon Williamson named NCAA Soccer Men’s Player of the Week

Duke freshman Brandon Williamson has had himself a great week.

After scoring a brace in the Blue Devils’ 2-1 win over No. 4 Notre Dame last weekend, Williamson has been named the NCAA Soccer Men’s Player of the Week. The honor comes on the heels of Williamson also claiming a spot on College Soccer News’ National Team of the Week.

Williamson scored goals in the 35th and 109th minutes of Duke’s win. Williamson gave Notre Dame goalkeeper Chris Hubbard no chance to stop the first strike, before taking advantage of a beautiful cross from Max Moser to put away the game-winning goal.

They were the first goals of the Gainesville, Virginia native’s collegiate career.

It was the highest-ranked team a Blue Devils men’s soccer team has defeated since toppling No. 1 North Carolina in 2014.

Duke (6-6-2) plays its final non-conference game Tuesday night at Elon.
