Nick Saban to tie record for most games coaching AP No. 1 team

Nick Saban is closing in on history.

When Saban leads the No.1 Alabama Crimson Tide onto the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday afternoon against Mississippi State, he will tie the record for most games spent coaching the No. 1 teamin the Associated Press Top 25.

Saturday’s game against Mississippi State will be Saban’s 45th game coaching the top AP team, tying former Ohio State head coach Woody Hayes and former Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden.

With a strong chance at taking down the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon, Saban could very well be the lone record holder when Alabama takes on cupcake Chattanooga net weekend which would likely extend the record to 47. Only time will tell.

Kickoff between the Crimson Tide and Mississippi State is set for noon ET on ESPN.
