Report: LSU gives Jimbo Fisher an ‘extremely substantial’ offer

From the moment Les Miles was fired by the LSU Tigers, Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher was identified as the top target to fill the coaching vacancy in the offseason.

It isn’t the first time that LSU has flirted with the possibility of handing the keys to the program to Fisher, but it looks like the Tigers could finally be making a serious play to land the Seminoles leading man.

According to a report from Football Scoop, LSU has given Jimbo Fisher “an extremely substantial” offer to become the next head coach.

Meanwhile, the Tallahassee Democrat reports that Fisher said he’s “fully invested in Florida State” as recently as Monday and that FSU President John Thrasher has “no reason to think” Fisher would bolt for LSU.

Fisher previously served as the LSU offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2000-2006 before leaving for Florida State.

It’s going to be an interesting situation to watch play out over the next few weeks.

LSU finishes off its 2016 campaign on Thursday night against Texas A&M in College Station. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
