The Stanford men’s soccer team claimed the 2016 national championship on Sunday evening, following a thrilling double-overtime game that went to a shootout.
Stanford defeated Wake Forest in the shootout, 5-4, to earn the national title for a second season in a row.

Last season, Stanford defeated Clemson to earn the school’s first men’s soccer championship.
The No. 5-seeded Cardinal came into the national championship match up against Wake Forest without allowing a goal in the tournament and that continued through regulation in the College Cup on Sunday.
