Lakeland football player found dead in pond on campus

There is some tragic news coming out of Lakeland University.

After initially being reported missing on Monday, freshman quarterback Kaelin O’Neal was found dead in a pond on campus. WTVD in Durham reported the news regarding the 18 year old.

Authorities found no signs of foul play, according to multiple reports, though the death remains under investigation.

“For a small institution like this, it’s a real tragedy,” university spokesman David Gallianetti told the Sheboygan Press. “We’re a tight-knit group here. For something like this to happen, it’s shocking.”

“We’re hurting at the loss of our loved one, especially right here at the holidays but our faith in God and the strength of our family will get us through. We ask that you keep us in your prayers,” O’Neal’s cousin, Portia Lee, told ABC11.
