New LSU offensive coordinator Matt Canada introduced himself to the Tigers fan base on Wednesday and did so in a big way.
Wasting no time in his first press conference, Canada took a direct shot at rival Alabama, trolling the Crimson Tide for a game that happened over a decade ago.
“Well, I’m 1-0 against Alabama,” Canada said about how he thinks he will do in the SEC. “At Northern Illinois, we beat them.”
That little troll job had to be appreciated by LSU fans, but then Canada quickly turned his attention to his players and let everyone know he was ready to get down to business.
“I’m humbled and excited to be here,” he added. “I’m just a ball coach. I don’t have a fancy name, I just love coaching kids. We can all draw plays. Plays are overrated. The players you get win games. We’re going to find the best players.
“Stats are overrated. Stats are funny to talk about when you’re not winning games. In a game, it’s just about scoring more points.”
MC on his strengths: I'm proud that we find a way to maximize our talents. We find the matchup that plays into our favor and go from there. pic.twitter.com/kiAd8leKk2

Canada will finish up his duties at Pitt in the Pinstripe Bowl against Northwestern on Dec. 28, before turning his attention to his new gig in Baton Rouge. But while fans will have to wait for Canada to appear in his office, he’s already made a big statement on Day 1.
