Cam Akers commitment: Five-star RB chooses Florida State

On Tuesday night, five-star running back Cam Akers held a special press conference on the High School Football Network to announce his college decision.

Entering Tuesday’s announcement, Akers had been projected by 247 Sports to choose Florida State.

The 5-foot-11, 213-pound standout from Clinton High School in Mississippi did not disappoint the Seminoles fan base with his decision and announced his Florida State commitment at the press conference before doing the “Tomahawk Chop.”

“It’s been a long road,” Akers said. “I will spending the next three or four years of my career at Florida State University.”

Akers chose Florida State over Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.

Akers is rated as the No. 2 running back in the Class of 2017 and the top overall player in the state of Mississippi, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Akers’ commitment to Florida State is a major get, as he is the No. 4 prospect regardless of position in the entire nation.
