Lane Kiffin reminisces about Saban’s ‘ass chewings’ at Alabama

New FAU football coach Lane Kiffin will be finishing out the season as Alabama offensive coordinator before turning his full attention to his new head coaching gig.

Because of that, Kiffin met with the media ahead of Saturday’s Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl national semifinal against Washington.

When talking to the media, Kiffin was asked to look back at his three years with the Crimson Tide. While three SEC titles, a Heisman Trophy winning running back and potentially two national championships could lead to happy memories from Kiffin, all he could do is reminisce about the “ass chewings” he received from Nick Saban.

“I don’t recall a happy moment. I just recall the ass chewings,” Kiffin said, via Sporting News.

“When you talk about the process, every day is the same. I think as a young coach, you had so many highs and lows.(Saban) said to me before, ‘Lane, I can take good news, I can take bad news, but don’t give me surprises.’ So I think that really explains a lot of the process.”

Well, when you trust the process, it is clear that plenty of good comes from it.

And not only did Kiffin have great success leading the Crimson Tide offense, he was able to parlay that success into a new head coaching job in Florida. It’s safe to say things worked out well for Kiffin.

Now, he just needs to find a way to replicate some of that success at FAU.
