Ex-Division III football player indicted on murder of teenage girl

William Riley Gaul, a freshman receiver for Maryville (Tennessee) College, has been indicted on seven charges stemming from the November murder of 16 year-old Emma Jane Walker.

Gaul, who faces charges including first-degree murder, evidence tampering and aggravated stalking. Emma Jane Walker had recently ended their relationship when Gaul began to stalk her in the beginning of October.

Gaul used the pistol his grandfather kept under the seat of his car to fire from outside of Walker’s house while she slept.

The grandfather didn’t report the gun stolen for two days; the day after he did, Emma was found dead.

Shortly after the body was found, but before he had been arrested, Gaul tweeted the following:

“I love you, Emma. I can’t be around any of that yet. It’s too soon. I know you know I’m dying to be there but understand I can’t. I love you.”

His bond has been set at $1 million and an arraignment date is yet to be set.
