The pipeline between the Rutgers football program and New England Patriots will pay off in a big way for the Scarlet Knights.
While the program has been in turmoil in recent years, a stat that was released on Sunday night will certainly be used by the university on the recruiting trail.
Pick Six Previews released a list of the college football programs that will have the most players representing them in Super Bowl LI betweenthe New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons, and it was Rutgers that topped the list.
Yes, that’s right, the Scarlet Knights will have more players in the Super Bowl than programs like Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Stanford and others.
Here’s the breakdown:
š Most Players in Super Bowl 51
5- Rutgers
4- Alabama
4- LSU
4- Stanford
3- Auburn
3- Georgia
3- Virginia
3- Washington— Pick Six Previews (@PickSixPreviews) January 23, 2017
The four Rutgers players who will be playing in Super Bowl LI areĀ Jonathan Freeman, Duron Harmon, Devin McCourty, Logan Ryan and Mohammed Sanu. All five players were recruited by Greg Schiano, the former Rutgers head coachĀ and current Ohio State assistant head coach/defensive coordinator, who is a close friend of Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and the man Belichick credits for getting his son into coaching.
Freeman, Harmon, McCourty and Ryan play for the Patriots, while Sanu is on the Falcons roster.
That means that a former Rutgers player is guaranteed to be on the Super Bowl winning team. The only other program that has that claim is Purdue —Ā Ricardo Allen (Falcons) and Rob Ninkovich (Patriots).
There haven’t been many victories for the Rutgers program in recent years, but they can certainly enjoy this moment.
