UNC Tar Heels Win 2017 National Championship

The UNC basketball program has avenged last year’s national championship loss.

On Monday night at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, the Tar Heels overcame a rough first half and rallied in the second to upend the Gonzaga Bulldogs, 71-65.

It marks the sixth national championship in UNC basketball history, placing the Tar Heels at No. 3 in Division I history.

Joel Berry II led the way for the Tar Heels, with 22 points, three rebounds and six assists. Kennedy Meeks added seven points and ten rebounds, while Isaiah Hicks also fell just short of a double-double with 13 points and nine boards.

Berry earned the Most Outstanding Player in the Final Four award.

Leading the way for Gonzaga was Nigel Williams-Goss, racking up 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Unfortunately it was not enough to give the Bulldogs the national title in their first Final Four appearance.

Congratulations to the Tar Heels faithful.
