Kansas basketball coach Bill Self had some very high praise for Frank Mason III.
Mason, who won the Naismith Award as college basketball’s player of the year, was wildly successful throughout his Jayhawks career and capped it off with the most prestigious award in the sport.
And according to his head coach, no one deserved it more.
That’s because Self is now on record saying Mason is the best guard he’s ever coached while leading the Kansas program.
“I don’t know if there’s ever been any player tougher than Frank Mason wearing the Crimson and Blue,” Self, via Gary Bedore of The Kansas City Star. “He’s been the best guard we’ve had since I’ve been here. He’s meant to us as a program as much as any one player has since I’ve been here.”
This season, Mason averaged 20.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game.
Hopefully he can continue that success at the next level. At the very least, he has one very proud college coach.
