After all the posturing, proselytizing and shameless promoting, LaVar Ball might end up getting what he wants. It appears as if the Los Angeles Lakers are moving closer to selecting his son, Lonzo, with the No. 2 overall pick.
After appearing concerned over the level of Lonzo’s fitness following his first workout, his second meeting seemed to go better.
The Lakers met with the oldest Ball brother on Friday, a meeting which included a meeting with Lakers president Magic Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka.
It appears that the Lakers are getting “closer and closer” to making Ball their selection, according to Chad Ford of ESPN.
The Lakers have also been considering selecting De’Aaron Fox with the second overall pick. The players are considered comparable, and with a similar skill set.
If Lonzo is selected second overall, it is difficult to deny that it is at least partly the work of his father’s incessant marketing and presence in the news stream.
Maybe LaVar isn’t as crazy as everyone thinks.
