Now that Daniel Cormier has been reinstated as light heavyweight champion, he is eyeing the next challenger for his belt and he is more than ready to move on from Jon Jones.
This week on social media, Cormier directed a tweet at No. 2 contender Volkan Oezdemir, saying the Swiss 205-pounder is next in line for a title shot.
According to Cormier, a fight against Oezdemir is what the fans want to see.
@volkan_oezdemir I asked and people wanna see u and I scrap. So you got it man! Let me figure a date now. They chose u bud! Congrats

If the UFC gives Cormier his wish, this will be an exciting fight. If the promotion chooses to go elsewhere, look for former title challenger Alexander Gustafsson, who is ranked one spot ahead of Oezdemir, to get the shot.
Cormier first won the vacant light heavyweight title at UFC 187 with a submission victory over Anthony Johnson. He went on to defend the belt against Gustafsson again, before earning wins over Anderson Silva and another submission victory over Johnson.
Cormier’s title reign appeared to end at UFC 214 this summer, but the bout was overturned after Jones tested positive for the anabolic steroid Turinabol. Cormier was then reinstagred as champion.
Oezdemir, meanwhile, has hauled off five straight wins — including three straight since joining the UFC in February of this year. Oezdemir defeated Ovince St. Preux via decision, before going on to score impressive knockouts over MIsha Cirkunov and Jimi Manuwa in just 70 seconds combined.
