The USC football player who leveled a Washington State fan rushing the field following the Cougars’ upset victory last Friday night has been identified.
The player responsible was redshirt freshman defensive lineman Liam Jimmons.
Video of the collision surfaced online Monday.
Police have since opened an investigation into the incident for a potential assault.
“We are looking into it,” Washington State assistant police chief Steve Hansen said, via Theo Lawson of The Spokesman-Review.
“We’re still gathering information, talking to witnesses, reaching out to USC to see if we can interview or they’ll interview the player for us. They’ll send it over to the PA’s office and see what they think. Earliest is going to be next week that we get this all combined.”
Washington State won the game, 30-27, to advance to 5-0 on the season.
The win pushed Mike Leach’s squad to No. 11 in the latest AP Top 25 rankings.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, Oct. 7 against the Oregon Ducks at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET on FOX.
