Nobody outside the Alabama football program ever learned who Donnie Lee was because of what he did on the football field.
The former walk-on wide receiver faced an uphill battle if he wanted to make a living playing football. On Thursday, he was dismissed from the team after making one of the worst decisions a young man can make.
Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban confirmed that Donnie Lee Jr. had been dismissed from the team after being arrested and charged with domestic assault against his girlfriend.
ESPN is reporting that Lee was involved in a “physical altercation” that resulted in injuries to the woman he was dating.
Lee hadn’t appeared in a game this season because of an injury to his knee. He’ll have a hard time finding his way onto another football field in any meaningful capacity again.
“Donnie Lee Jr., a walk-on who has not been participating in team activities since a knee injury in August, has been dismissed from our football team and is no longer part of our program,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said in a release. “This behavior will not be tolerated from anyone and is not representative of our football program.”
Lee was from nearby Northport, Alabama. He was officially charged with third-degree domestic violence, and received an additional charge for speeding.
Bond was set for $1,000 for the domestic violence charge, and $300 for the speeding violation.
