Alabama football player Deionte Thompson is one of four men indicted on felony aggravated assault charges, according to The Beaumont Enterprise. The charges stem from a fight during Spring Break in Texas.
Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban immediately issued a statement on the matter.
“We are continuing to follow the progress of the legal proceedings in this matter,” Saban said. “We are not going to make any judgements until that process has been completed.”
The reports state the 18-year-old victim, Noah Frillou, was viciously beaten which resulted in his jaw being wired shut and four plates being placed in his face.
The brawl is believed to have occured after a racial slur was said and on of Thompson’s friends punched Frillou in the face. Once on the ground, police say Thompson was one of the men who kicked the victim.
There is no word on how this will impact Thompson’s status for the remainder of the season.
The redshirt sophomore has appeared in every game this season for the Crimson Tide.
