If the Auburn Tigers are going to continue the SEC season-spoiling tour, it’ll take a team effort this weekend. The Tigers are taking on the best team in college football, the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Anything can happen in the Iron Bowl, but now Gus Malzahn and his Auburn Tigers will be hoping it happens without starting running back Kamryn Pettway.
Malzahn hinted that Pettway might be out last Thursday, and on Tuesday he confirmed it. The Tigers are nursing a number of injuries heading into their toughest game of the season. While speaking to members of the media, Malzahn was cautiously optimistic that Pettway would be the only player out for the game.
“As of right now, I’d say everybody’s got a good chance of playing,” Malzahn said. “There’s two or three that are possibilities. Once it gets to probably Thursday, I’ll have a better idea,” Malzahn said.
Of the question marks, Tre’ Williams and sophomore defensive back Jeremiah Dinson are the biggest concerns.
If the Tigers are going to pull off another upset, and possibly vault themselves into the College Football Playoff discussion, they’ll need all hands on deck. They’ll already be without one of their most potent offensive weapons, any attrition on defense might be too much to overcome.
