FAU football coach Lane Kiffin could soon be a wealthier man.
On Sunday evening, a report from the Palm Beach Post indicated the Owls head coach is working on a new contract with the program. FAU president John Kelly confirmed contract discussions are ongoing.
“I’ve told Lane that when I met with him, I thought we could be a top-25 program and we need a coach who can do that,” Kelly said. “He’s on the verge of doing that. We’re obviously looking toward keeping Lane long term.”
Kiffin signed a five-year, $4.5 million deal a year ago.
This season, Kiffin led the Owls to a 10-3 record and appearance in the Boca Raton Bowl which takes place on Tuesday night.
Thanks to the ten-win season, Kiffin is already the second-winningest head coach in FAU history behind Howard Schnellenberger (58).
Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
