College Football Rankings: Way-Too-Early Rankings For 2018

The college football season is winding down with bowl season in full swing, but it’s never too early to look ahead to the future. That is exactly what FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt is doing with the release of his way-too-early 2018 rankings.

As you would expect, Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide are sitting at No. 1, while the team they’ve faced for the past three season in the College Football Playoff, the Clemson Tigers, are at No. 2.

Klatt has this year’s other two playoff teams, Georgia and Oklahoma, at No. 6 and No. 7, respectively.

Perhaps the biggest surprise in Klatt’s rankings is the Michigan Wolverines sitting at No. 3. Next season, the Wolverines are expected to be led by Ole Miss transfer Shea Patterson — assuming he receives a transfer waiver from the NCAA to play immediately — which gives Jim Harbaugh’s squad the signal-caller they have been in search for.
