Featherweight Champ Max Holloway To Defend Title At UFC 222

The date and opponent for Max Holloway’s next fight are set.
On Monday evening, reports surfaced that the featherweight champion will be returning to the Octagon to take on the man he was initially supposed to defend his title against at UFC 218 last month.
Holloway (19-3) will be taking on former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 222, according to MMAjunkie.com.
UFC 222 takes place March 3 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
It was the easy fight for UFC matchmakers to make, with the two men sitting atop the featherweight rankings and expressing their interest of facing off inside of the Octagon.

Holloway initially struck UFC gold when he defeated Anthony Pettis at UFC 206 in Dec. 2016 to claim the interim title.
Lat summer, Holloway returned to action against Jose Aldo at UFC 212 in a featherweight title unification bout. Holloway earned the undisputed title with a third-round TKO in hostile territory in Brazil.
After his initial title defense against Frankie Edgar fell through just weeks before UFC 218 when Edgar suffered a broken orbital, Aldo stepped in on short notice in an effort to reclaim his title. However, Holloway once again came through with a third-round TKO to successfully defend his belt.
He now enters the fight against Edgar on a 12-fight winning streak with three straight stoppage wins.
Edgar (22-5-1), meanwhile, enters the bout on a two-fight winning streak with his most recent win being a dominant TKO via doctor stoppage over super prospect Yair Rodriguez.
Additional bouts for UFC 222 will be announced in the coming weeks.
