In the main event of Bellator 193, Lorenz Larkin meets Fernando Gonzalez in a catchweight bout.
Despite two consecutive losses since joining Bellator from the UFC, Larkin (18-7, 1 NC) finds himself receiving headlining duties as he attempts to get his first win under the promotional banner. He faces a game and seasoned opponent in Gonzalez.
Gonzalez (27-14), who goes by “The Menifee Maniac,” enters the bout on a two-fighting winning streak and with an impressive 7-1 record in his last eight outings. Gonzalez’s biggest win in Bellator has been against Brennan Ward, a Bellator Season 9 middleweight tournament winner and former title challenger. The biggest issue for Gonalez throughout his career has been weight, failing to hit his mark in his past two outings, and drug test failures — popping positive twice for marijuana metabolites.
He’ll look to put those issues behind him by making a statement against the heavy-handed UFC vet.
In the co-main event of the night, J.J. Ambrose faces off against Saad Awad. Awad (21-9) has been with Bellator since Jan. 2013 and has nine wins for the promotion, including one over former lightweight champion Will Brooks. He enters the fight on a two-bout winning streak.
Ambrose (26-7, 2 NC), meanwhile, returns to Bellator for the first time since 2013 after hauling off victories in his last three fights.
