Baker Mayfield was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and his career with the Cleveland Browns is just getting started. On Friday, Mayfield appeared at Progressive Field ahead of the Cleveland Indians’ game against the Seattle Mariners along with fellow first-round pick Denzel Ward where the pair threw out the first pitch.
It was the Heisman Trophy-winner’s first opportunity to impress the Cleveland fans with his arm.
Unfortunately, things did not go as planned.
Mayfield failed his first throw as a professional athlete in his new home city and the pitch was just a little high and inside. Add in the fact that Mayfield wasn’t even standing on the mound and, well, let’s just say that thins could have gone a lot better.
Take a look at Mayfield and Ward’s first pitches below:

Let’s hope his NFL debut with the Browns goes a little better.
As far as the Indians are concerned, however, things did improve for the home crowd as the night went on with the Indians edging out the Mariners, 6-5, for the win.
