Jimmy V Classic 2018: Teams, Dates & Venue Announced

The 2018 Jimmy V Men’s Basketball Classic will take place Tuesday, Dec. 4 at the world famous Madison Square Garden in New York City. On Wednesday, ESPN announced the four teams that will participate in the double-header, with the Florida Gators, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oklahoma Sooners, and West Virginia Mountaineers all set to participate. It will be the 24th consecutive year the event has taken place as part of the 12th annual V Week for Cancer Research. Over the course of V Week for Cancer Research, an impressive $22.2 million has been raised.
Notre Dame and Oklahoma will face off in the opening game of the double-header, marking the first time the two programs have ever faced off on the hardwood, while West Virginia and Florida will cap off the night.
“We are honored to be a part of this year’s Jimmy V Classic and help support the V Foundation. It is one of the signature events of the college basketball season and to get back to The Garden and face a Power Five opponent on national television will be a great opportunity for our group,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said in a statement.
Bob Huggins, the West Virginia head coach, added: “We are honored to play in such a special event for a great cause, and I know our fans will be excited to see us play on ESPN and in Madison Square Garden. The Jimmy V Classic is one of the premier events during the college basketball season, and the Jimmy V Classic during V Week brings awareness to such a terrible disease because every one of us has been affected by cancer in one way or another. When we lost our mother in 2003, my family and I started the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Endowment Fund, and we have raised more than two million dollars in cancer research. We all need to join the fight to end this deadly disease.”
Tickets for the event will be available online at www.ticketmaster.com and www.thegarden.com at a later date to be announced.
