The Sun Belt Conference is set to mix things up for the 2018 college football season. Beginning in 2018, the conference, which has ridded itself of Idaho and New Mexico State to narrow down to 10 teams, will play its very first conference championship game.
The Sun Belt Conference Championship will be played on Dec. 1, 2018.
The title game will be played by the winner of the two new divisions in the conference. In the East, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State and Troy will be battling it out, while the Western division includes Arkansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, South Alabama, and Texas State.
Whichever division winner is ranked higher by the College Football Playoff selection committee will host the game.
On Monday, the conference also unveiled a special addition to the championship game that will be awarded to the game’s MVP. The winner of the game will be awarded their very own WWE-inspired championship belt, living up to the conference’s “Fun Belt” nickname.

The belt was designed by ProAm Belts and features the conference logo along with an inscription which reads “Sun Belt Football Championship” and “Most Valuable Player.”
