Minnesota Football: Zack Annexstad Received Call From Baker Mayfield

Minnesota football player Zach Annexstad received a call from an inspirational figure. The true freshman walk-on quarterback received a personal phone call from former walk-on quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield.
Mayfield began his college career as a walk-on quarterback his true freshman year at Texas Tech.
He went on to transfer to the Oklahoma Sooners, where he continued his career and developed into a Heisman Trophy-winning signal-caller.

“It was good for Zack to hear from him because people had mentioned him,” Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “Any time you can get advice from a guy who has been through what you’ve been through — it was a good moment for him to start his career.”

In the season-opener against New Mexico State, Annexstad completed 16-of-33 passes for 220 yards for two touchdowns and no interceptions.
