One of the top college football players in the nation is set to miss Week 3. On Tuesday, Sept. 11, it was reported that Stanford star running back Bryce Love will be out of action for the team’s meeting with UC Davis. The news delivers the latest blow to Love’s Heisman campaign.
Cardinal head coach David Shaw announced the news on Tuesday.
Entering the 2018 season, Love was considered a front-runner for the prestigious award after being a finalist the year prior, but he was shut down for the first game after some early struggles. In the second game, Love had a solid showing, but Week 3 means he will be wrapping up the first month of the season with just 165 yards and one touchdown.
During Stanford’s Week 2 win over USC, he was forced out of the game in the fourth quarter due to an undisclosed injury.
Senior running back Cameron Scarlett is expected to start in Love’s absence.
Stanford is set to host the UC Davis Aggies on Saturday, Sept. 15. Kickoff at Stanford Stadium is set for 2:00 p.m. ET on the Pac-12 Network.
