Zion Williamson Could Return to Duke Instead of Going to Pelicans

Zion Williamson is the projected No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, but does he really want to play for the New Orleans Pelicans? Reports surfaced that the Duke basketball star was hoping for the New York Knicks to earn the top spot in the draft lottery and now he has options.
To add to the intrigue, Williamson said that he would have liked to return to Duke if it was possible, and it actually is.
While it is unlikely, because of the fact that Williamson has not signed an agent or a shoe deal, he has the option to return to the Blue Devils if he ultimately chooses. That could put some pressure on the Pelicans to trade the pick.
“He does have some options. I’m not saying he’s going to pick these options, but he has not signed with an agent and he has not signed a shoe deal yet,” Windhorst stated. “He could threaten to go back to Duke.”

Again, it is highly unlikely that Williamson would pass up on his NBA dream after an impressive freshman campaign at Duke, but anything is possible. And could you imagine the pure joy of Blue Devils fans and the heartbreak of Pelicans fans if he chooses to return? This is why we love sports.
