Former Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford has landed on his feet quickly and has been hired as the new coach at Saint Louis, per a report from Stu Dorando of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Ford had spent the last eight seasons with the Cowboys, but was fired after going 12-20 (3-15 Big 12) last season and 155-111 (63-80 Big 12) during his tenure in Stillwater, with no deep tournament runs of which to speak. In a career that also included stops at UMass, Eastern Kentucky and NAIA program Campbellsville, Ford owns a career mark of 334-262.
And the 46-year-old will now take over a Billikens team that experienced something of a rebirth under the legendary Rick Majerus and then Jim Crews, but has faltered the past two seasons after three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. SLU went 11-21 (5-13 Atlantic 10) overall for the second year in a row in 2015-16, and a new face is needed if the program wants to get to its first Sweet Sixteen since 1957.
Ford has never been that deep into the tournament himself, but he has A-10 experience and is a good hire for a program that needs to hit the reset button.
