Former USC Trojans defensive end Scott Felix’s career is over after his appeal to the NCAA was denied, according to ESPN.
Felix was suspended late last season after testing positive for a banned substance, a result he attributed to taking an over-the-counter supplement without consulting the Trojans’ medical staff. He admitted the mistake, but still appealed to the NCAA with the hope that he would be allowed to play for another year.
“I made a mistake in believing my research was enough to prove the supplement was safe to take,” Felix said in a statement. “We are educated on these topics here at USC so that something like this never happens, and I hope that it never will again. While this mistake was not done on purpose, I take full responsibility for my actions.”
Felix will remain at school to pursue a theater degree and leaves the Trojans with 64 tackles and 5.5 sacks across two seasons. It’s a rough ending to his career, but not one that was entirely unexpected.
Despite that, combined with the loss of defensive lineman Kenny Bigelow, USC is going to be looking a bit thin up front in 2016.
