New England Patriots rookie Malcolm Mitchell is one of the most interesting players from the 2016 NFL Draft class off the field. Mitchell is also one of the only self-published authors in the NFL and now he was the only rookie to decline an invitation to the NFLPA Rookie Premiere this weekend.
Don’t worry, though. Mitchell had the perfect reason for missing out on the Rookie Premiere; one that head coach Bill Belichick will surely appreciate.
According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, Mitchell declined his invite in order to study the playbook.
I’m told #Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell is the only one among 41 expected attendees who didn’t make it to NFLPA Rookie Premiere this weekend

I’m told #Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell declined to attend the NFLPA Rookie Premiere so he could stay home and study his playbook

So skipping it is no big deal at all, especially if Mitchell thinks his time is better spent in NE studying his playbook

While Mitchell would have had a great opportunity attending the Rookie Premiere, he is showing that his focus is making sure he is as knowledgeable about his new system as possible.
We know Bill Belichick loves athletes who put football first, so Mitchell is going to fit in just fine in Foxboro.
