The Nevada Athletic Commission was not amused by Wednesday afternoon’s dust up between UFC 202 main event participants Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor.
During a pre-fight press conference for Saturday’s event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Diaz and his team decided to leave early. As they were leaving, they were shouting at McGregor and throwing up the middle finger — the Stockton Salute, if you will — before tossing a bottle McGregor’s way.
McGregor then reacted by launched multiple bottles and Monster Energy cans back at Diaz and his camp who returned fire until they were removed from the theater.
UFC president Dana White was unhappy with the incident, but he wasn’t the only one that will be taking a closer look at it all.
“The Nevada State Athletic Commission has reviewed the press conference videos. At this time we are looking into the conduct of all parties involved and have no comment,” NAC executive director Bob Bennett said in a statement.
For Diaz, McGregor and any one else who threw a bottle, this could mean fines are coming.
After a media day brawl between former champion Jon Jones and current title holder Daniel Cormier, Jones was fined $50,000 and ordered to 40 hours of community service for his role in a scuffle. Cormier received lesser punishment.
