Joe Mixon suspension: Details released

The Oklahoma Sooners announced late Tuesday night that star running back Joe Mixon has been suspended for this week’s game against Iowa State. Now, details are beginning to surface regarding why the team’s leading rusher is being forced to the sideline.

According to The Oklahoman, Mixon received a parking ticket. Mixon was frustrated, tore up the ticket and threw it on the ground in front of the parking attendant.

From the report:

At 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Mixon was given a parking citation on the north oval, said his attorney, Blake Johnson.

“He was frustrated, as most of us are when we get a ticket,” Johnson said. “He tore the ticket up in front of the parking attendant, and threw it on the ground.”

Later that afternoon, at 1:30 p.m., Johnson said the parking attendant filed a complaint with OUPD.

“We are very confident that Joe did nothing criminal,” Johnson said. “He’s been suspended for this Thursday’s game, and he understands and accepts that.”

Mixon currently has 813 yards and five touchdowns on the ground this season.

With Mixon suspended and the Samaje Perine currently injured, Oklahoma will turn to freshman Abdul Adams.

Kickoff between the Sooners and Cyclones is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN Thursday night at Jack Trice Stadium.
