Texas AD on Potential A&M Game: My Phone Isn’t Ringing

For any Longhorns and Aggies fans who were hoping for a non-conference game between Texas and Texas A&M, I hate to say that it’s probably not going to happen. Per Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman, University of Texas AD Steve Patterson was blunt in whether or not such a matchup would happen.

It’s certainly a shame in every way possible as a battle for state pride is always fun to watch, like whenever the NBA’s Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks face off against each other. Having one between Texas and Texas A&M would not only be great for the fans, but for the state as a whole, not to mention college football.

Unfortunately, neither party seems interested right now, so fans of each team will just have to enjoy the upcoming seasons as they are.

Texas went 6-7 (5-4 Big 12) in its first season under head coach Charlie Strong, ultimately losing to Arkansas in the Texas Bowl.

Texas A&M, meanwhile, went 8-5 (3-5 SEC) and defeated West Virginia in the Liberty Bowl.
