SMU guard Nic Moore has accepted a spot on the USA National Team from coach Bill Self for World University Games this coming July. Self’s Kansas Jayhawks are representing the United States at the games, but have added Moore to fill perimeter needs.
With two players unable to attend the games, Self is filling the spots with one new recruit and Moore.
SMU’s coach Larry Brown formerly coached at Kansas, while Self was his assistant. The similar styles of play should make the transition easy for Moore in the short time the team has to prepare for the Games.
KU Athletics interviewed Self about Moore’s ability, he responded, “Nic is one of the best guards in the country, period. He can play on the ball and off the ball. He’s little, so we’ll have three little guys running around there sometimes.”
Moore led the SMU Mustangs in scoring, assists, and steals as he made his way to being named the AAC Player of the Year. While he only stands at 5 feet 9 inches, Moore will provide a nice dose of scoring ability for the Kansas squad.
Shooting a spectacular 87 percent from the free throw line and 41 percent from beyond the arc, he will provide as much more than a simple replacement.
