R-Truth defeated King Barrett at the WWE Money in the Bank kickoff tonight.
It was a very back-and-forth match, with Truth making his entrance to his signature “What’s Up” rap and usual crowd banter. This guy will probably never be more than lower to mid midcard, but he is a fan favorite who is always good for a laugh.
The same cannot be said for Barrett, who came out in his signature royal garb as well a ridiculous fluorescent singlet that I can only imagine was purchased at a Las Vegas yard sale. Though he certainly had his bright spots in this match, he’s moving closer and closer to jobber status despite being named King of the Ring recently. Barrett was able to knock down Truth and set up for his signature finisher, the Royal Bullhammer elbow, but Truth ducked away from it not once, not twice but three times before getting caught and potentially set up for a spinning side slam.
However, Truth was able to roll up Barrett and pin him for the three-count and walk away with the victory. It’s great for him, but Barrett’s push is becoming more and more overdue as the title of King of the Ring appears to look more and more meaningless with each passing week.
