In a span of three days, Nebraska lost three defensive players for the entire upcoming season.
We learned Thursday that cornerback Charles Jackson would miss the season with a knee injury. The next day, the Cornhuskers announced that safety LeRoy Alexander would be suspended for the year.
On Saturday, another member of the team went down with a season-ending injury. Middle linebacker Michael Rose banged up his knee and will sit the year, specific details remain undisclosed. He is scheduled to have surgery next week.
As a freshman, Rose burst onto the scene and was extremely productive for the Cornhuskers. He finished the season with 66 tackles, setting a freshman record in the process.
He was expected to compete for the starting job this season with Josh Banderas.
Head coach Bo Pelini insisted that his team would be fine moving forward.
“Our team morale is fine,” Pelini stated. “I feel for those kids. As far as us going forward, we have a lot of good players, we’ve got a lot of good competition. We’ll be just fine.”
Nebraska faces off against Florida Atlantic in their season opener on August 30.
