College basketball can be a great experience for some. For others, it can be seen as a roadblock standing in the way of their dream to play basketball professionally at the next level.
Univeristy of North Carolina forward J.P. Tokoto suprised alot of people back in April when he decided to forgeo his final season at UNC to enter the NBA Draft. Most draft experts think Tokoto will be a late 2nd round pick or possibly go un-drafted.
Sports Illustrated writer Daniel Wilco caught up with North Carolina head coach Roy Williams and his thoughts about Tokoto leaving school early.
“I did tell him I didn’t think it was the smartest decision,” Williams said. “But he felt strongly that that’s what he wanted to do, so I told him I would support him.”
Williams was just being honest when asked what his opinion was, but maybe it wasn’t the smartest. At least from a player standpoint.
Tokoto has worked his entire life to get this point of his basketball career. Now the man, who Tokoto played his heart out for the past three years, is questioning if he is ready to play in the NBA.
North Carolina is considered to be one of the better teams in 2015-2016 season, and could of used Tokoto’s play-making abilities to compete in the always tough ACC.
Maybe that was the reason for Williams comment. He was upset over the fact that he is losing one of his veterans instead of coming back to school to compete for a National Championship.
