The University of North Carolina announced the suspension of four key players for Saturday’s season opener against Liberty University.
Desmond Lawrence, Brian Walker, M.J. Stewart, and Donnie Miles are each being investigated for an alleged assault of freshman walk-on receiver Jackson Boyer. The incident in question occurred at a training camp hotel where the supposed hazing of Boyer escalated into assault. Boyer was left with a concussion.
The school did not specifically state that the suspensions were linked to the event and will continue its probe of the events.
Head coach Larry Fedora took the stand to support the decision by the university, and issued a warning to all other players considering their stunt.
Fedora said, “”We hold our players accountable for their actions at all times.”
It remains unclear whether or not the suspensions will be longer than just one game, but it appears that the players will not be suiting up for the Tar Heels until the situation is solved.
