After a strange series of events, the College of Charleston has finally finished their men’s basketball coaching search and has decided to hire Clemson assistant coach Earl Grant.
Former head coach Doug Wocjik was fired on August 5, and the month long search came to an exhausting conclusion Tuesday night. After several of the school’s top candidates removed their names from consideration, the search was narrowed to its final two candidates in Grant and N.C. State assistant coach Bobby Lutz, with Grant ultimately winning the job.
Grant spent the previous five seasons as an assistant to head coaches Brad Brownell and Oliver Purnell. During those years, the team qualified for the NCAA Tournament twice finishing with an overall record of 95-69.
Grant will have his hands full with a Cougars team coming off of a 14-18 season and a rather tumultuous off-season.
