TCU loses LB Douglas for year, McFarland likely to join him

Although the limbs of Trevone Boykin and Josh Doctson are still intact after a close encounter with the persistent Gophers of Minnesota, Gary Patterson has reported a permanent loss on defense with likely another one coming, pending an official evaluation.

The two Horned Frogs, linebacker Sammy Douglas and defensive end James McFarland, are likely to see their 2015 seasons come to an early halt after sustaining injuries in week one.

If that didn’t discourage Gary Patterson enough, two other defensive players – DT Davion Pierson and DE Mike Tuaua – and their statuses for their game against Stephen F. Austin are up in the air. Deante Gray, a WR/DB, may also be questionable, but only concerning a mental hump about his knee injury.

Deante Gray, a member of the Horned Frogs football team since 2012, caught 36 balls for 582 yards and reeled in eight touchdowns in 2014.

But with minimal experience to fall back onto since losing the key starters, two true freshman, Mike Freeze (7 tackles vs. Minnesota) and Ty Summers (7 tackles vs. Minnesota), will have to step up and re-amp defensive morale if they’re to keep up with the tempo.
