What a main event we had tonight, ladies and gentlemen. Seth Rollins scored a cheap victory over Sting to retain his WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Sheamus tried to cash in, and then Demon Kane made his return to action after a two month absence!
Sting started by punching a visibly tired Rollins multiple times before attempting his signature Scorpion Deathlock. Rollins forced a break before taking more lumps.
He mounted more offense of his own, but the Icon countered it and even stopped Rollins from trying to hit him with a TV monitor. Sting then continued to just take his time, taking full advantage of the fact that Rollins just got the living crap beat out of him by Cena not too long ago. But then the real fun began.
Sting brought Rollins to the announce tables, but was shoved towards the Spanish announce table. He went through it, and Rollins then tried to walk away from the fight as officials tended to Sting.
Rollins then went back to Sting and bodyslammed him before the two went back to the ring. The champ stalked and berated a wounded Sting before DDTing him to the ground again, taking full advantage of Sting being 56 and mostly past his prime. He whipped Sting into the corner before landing a brutal suplex, but the six-time WCW Champion kicked out of an attempted pin.
Sting then mounted some offense, but was then driven into the post by Rollins. Another pin attempt failed.
Rollins then attempted the Pedigree, but Sting countered and the champ was suddenly out of the ring. Standing on the top rope, the champ was pushed into the barricade by Sting. Once Rollins was back in the ring, it was time for a clothesline and then the famous Stinger Splash, putting Rollins out of the ring once again.
But then the ageless wonder went to the top rope and dove onto Rollins, as the crowd chanted “You still got it!”
All thought it was then over once Sting landed the Scorpion Deathdrop, but Rollins’ boot was on the rope. Enter another Stinger Splash and some corner punches, but then the Icon was powerbombed by the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Sting was then tended to by the ringside doctor as Rollins gloated. But Sting ultimately came back.
Rollins attempted a Pedigree again, but Sting countered and again locked in the Scorpion Deathlock. Just when we thought Rollins would tap, however, he grabbed the rope. Another Pedigree attempt, another Scorpion Deathlock attempt.
And then it all fell down. Rollins rolled Sting up to earn the pinfall victory, and WCW fans cried worldwide.
Or did it? Sheamus then ran down the ramp to try and cash in his contract, and then Kane’s music came on. In full demon form, the seven-footer marched down the ramp and chokeslammed Rollins after being tormented by him for a few months prior. Sheamus cheered for another, but was then chokeslammed himself before Kane nailed Rollins with a Tombstone Piledriver.
This means that on Raw tomorrow night, anything can happen. Why did Kane come back as the Demon? Why did he target Sheamus as well? Will Sting ask for another match? The possibilities are endless.
Anyway, that’s all from Campus Sports’ WWE department tonight. Come back in October for Hell in a Cell!
