Princeton University investigating groping cases

The Princeton University campus is on high alert after two women reported being groped from behind by two unidentified men.

According to the Daily Princetonian, a red-haired man dressed in a white shirt and a backpack struck a woman on her buttocks Sunday while she was standing between Whig Hall and Murray-Dodge Hall. The man reportedly fled the scene on a bicycle.

The incident follows a similar campus attack last Thursday when a woman reported being grabbed by the butt while walking down Charlton Street. The suspect in that case is described as being a short Hispanic man with black hair wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Princeton and other Ivy League schools have been publicly scrutinized for their handling of sexual assault.

Last year Time Magazine reported that the New Jersey University lowered it standard of proof for sexual assault violations, thereby settling a federal investigation into Princeton’s handling of sexual assault cases.

University officials say the two groping cases are not related. However campus police and Princeton’s Department of Public Safety are teaming up with law enforcement agencies to investigate the incidents.

The university is also beefing up patrols in the area and sending out campus alerts in accordance to the Clery Act.
