Alabama assistants receive hefty bonuses for championship win

The Alabama Crimson Tide were able to pull away from the Clemson Tigers in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s national championship to earn their fourth title in seven years.

And while the players were celebrating achieving a career goal, the assistant coaches on the Crimson Tide had another reason to be excited: they each received some hefty bonuses for being a part of the staff.

Per USA Today’s Steve Berkowitz, nine Alabama coaches received bonuses that totaled $1.1 million.

The biggest bonus went to defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, who earned $250,000, while offensive coordinator Lane Kiffinreceived an extra $150,000.

Another assistant to receive a healthy bonus was strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran, who is already the highest paid strength and conditioning coach in the nation.

It certainly was not a bad day for the Alabama coaching staff.

As for the players, well, at least they received some free gear.
