Saban, Alabama Suspend LB Trey DePriest

In his last press conference before the Crimson Tide travels to Atlanta to take on West Virginia, head coach Nick Saban announced that linebacker Trey DePriest will not see the field. Saban stated DePriest will sit out due to  a “minor NCAA infraction”, however is expected to start in the home opener against Florida Atlantic next weekend.

Reuben Foster and Reggie Ragland are set to be the starters at the the inside linebacker position in DePriest’s absence.

Also surfacing in the press conference this evening, it was previously uncertain if new offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin would be on the field or in the press box calling plays, but Saban confirmed he would have a “bigger impact on the players” if he joined them on the field.

Saban has yet to name a starting quarterback, as fifth-year senior Blake Sims has been engaged in a heated position battle with Florida State transfer Jacob Coker all summer. Saban is gave Sims praise for the way he handled the competition.

“Blake Sims has always put the team first and has done a good job of that this fall,” Saban said.

Who will start at quarterback is still uncertain, but without question this young defense will notice DePriest’s absence in the middle this weekend against West Virginia.
