Cornerback Marcus Lewis of Gonzaga High School (Washington, D.C.) shocked many of his followers today when he picked the Florida State Seminoles over Miami and Kentucky. Lewis, who never took an official visit to Florida State, is a consensus top cornerback and has been ranked as high as the No. 8 overall athlete.
The Seminoles were in dire need of revamping a secondary that showed many holes during their College Football Playoff appearance against Oregon, and Lewis was a major pickup. With last year’s starters leaving for the NFL, Lewis has a chance to make an instant impact for the Seminoles. Furthermore, Lewis’ elite athleticism should allow his game to translate right away into college making him an excellent Signing Day steal.
Florida State has an opportunity to make another major Signing Day splash later today when another cornerback, Iman Marshall, signs on the dotted line. Still, it is expected that Marshall is leaning towards his hometown USC Trojans.
