The BYU basketball program took a hit after news surfaced that forward Isaac Neilson and guard Frank Bartley would be leaving the program on Monday.
The Salt Lake Tribune has reported that Neilson was told to look around for playing time but Bartley’s decision was a surprise to the coaching staff.
“I appreciate all the contributions Frank and Isaac made to our program,” head coach Dave Rose said in a statement released by the university.
“We wish them both the very best going forward.”
Both players were minor contributors during their time at BYU. Neilson averaged 3.1 points per game and 2.4 rebounds per game. Bartley chipped in with 2.5 points per game and 1.8 rebounds per game.
The Cougars will also have to replace four seniors for the upcoming season which will be a difficult task for coach Rose.
BYU finished last season with a 25-10 record and a birth in the NCAA Tournament. However, the Cougars were bounced in the first round of March Madness after falling to the Ole Miss Rebels, 94-90.
